Here we have a simple spud gun...tater gun....potato gun. it will shoot a potato about 600 foot. this is a real fun toy to play with, but use CAUTION it is concidered a fire arm and should be treated as such. never attempt to shoot at anyone or any animals. it might not be to pleasurefull to get hit with a potato traveling 600 foot per second. NEVER shoot indoors as the projectile will go through glass put holes in panneling and at close range can be very distructive. IF YOU ARE NOT A MATURE ADULT go find one to help you build and shoot this divice. i have too.... below is a diagram showing the general construction of the spud gun. it is real simple to construct, and use.

the length of the barrell and chamber can be what ever you want, the numbers i used is what works for me.

the piezoelectric device i brought at walmart back there buy the gas grills. i soldered 2 wires on the termenals, i used some solid wire about 20 gauge. the gap was set close 1/8" or so. the wire i used was some old flat robbon cable i had. it was 4 conductor so i split it in two pairs.

in the screw cap in the center of the square head i drilled a hole to incert the peizo divice. the wire was about 1" past the pizeo divice. just enough to get in the chamber. all pvc connection should be cemented with pvc cement!

so how do i shoot the potato?

you will need to jam a potato down the barrell. also you might want to put a stop in the barrell close to the chamber. a bolt (not pictured) 1/4" x 20 x 2" will do. use a nut to secure the bolt. the ram rod can be a old broom handle or whatever you have that is a smaller diameter than the barrell.

next you need to unscrew the end cap A. find some perfume, hair spray, body spray, wd-40, any spray that has, sd alcohol, propane, butane, on the lable. another good way to tell if the spray is going to be a good propellent is it will say flamable on the package!

spray in the chamber a small amount of propellant . it is important not to spray to much, if you spray to much in the chamber the gun wont fire. the same goes if you do not spray enough.

screw the cap on tight and take aim then push the piezoelectric divice BANG.......

point this or any other gun in a unsafe direction, this homemade gun should be treated like a firearm and should always practice gun safty. if your not shure about gun safty you should not attempt to build this gun.

i use some old socks rolled up and rubber bands to hold the shape for projectiles. they dont go as far but they are reusable and a little safer!
